More about D&B…

What is D&B? (the short and sweet version)

We are CPAs who provide a range of accounting services, reporting and audit preparation.

Do you do taxes?

We provide affordable tax services to small businesses, individuals and families that meets both federal and state filing requirements.

I don't see a price mentioned anywhere, how much do you charge?

Because of the nature of all of the different projects we work on, there is no set fee.

The majority of our contracts are on a per-month or per-project basis. Our compilations, reviews, and audits are based on your company’s operating activities and estimated time involved with respect to the accountants’ report we issue.

Accounting is boring; does that mean you guys are boring?

We sure don’t think so (to either of the above)!

We are passionate about helping small businesses and fellow entrepreneurs succeed. In our experience, this doesn’t happen if the accounting is not up to par.

Our clients enjoy working with us (we hope) as much as we enjoy working with them. Skeptical? Contact us to set up a complimentary meeting so we can discuss you and your business over lunch (we’ll buy!).

Financial Statements

My ________ needs financial statements from me, but I have no idea what I'm doing.

No problem!

The most common request for a businesses financial statements come from banks. Lines of credit, loans and other services won’t be provided to a business unless the bank has an idea of what shape your finances are in. Other times, if you’re looking for investors or more partners in your business, financial statements may be requested of you.

If you just need a basic set of personal financial statements or compiled, reviewed, or audited financial statements we can assist you. We offer a competitive fee and enjoy working with our clients as they look to grow.

I received a request that requires me to hire an independent CPA. What is that about?

Independent certified public accountants (CPAs) are often used to provide some level of assurance as to the accuracy of an entity’s financial statements.

The reason for this is because an independent CPA has credibility with the general public to provide an objective assessment of a company’s financial situation.

D&B are independent CPAs and can work with you to help satisfy the requirements your company needs to comply with. Contact us today for a complimentary needs assessment.

Auditors scare me. Can you help?

If you have already engaged an auditor, we can help you get prepared. We know what auditors are looking for and how to keep them happy. There’s no secret recipe, but we excel in providing your auditors with everything they need to substantially complete your audit.

Consulting

I need help with budgeting and planning for the future and I don't know where to begin.

We get this question all the time from our clients.

It’s hard for a business to grow when you don’t know where you’re at and how you’re going to get there. We work with our clients to help them prepare budgets on a monthly, quarterly, and/or annual basis. From that, we are able to forecast and project the future direction of the company and what it needs to get there.

I have a project I need completed but I don't have the expertise or time to complete it. What do I do?

We’re glad you asked!

There are several reasons your company might need a special project completed. If you’re looking to buy or sell a company you might need assistance with due diligence. If you’re looking to gain funding or obtain accreditation from a third-party, you might need to compile various reports to submit. These are just a couple of examples.

We enjoy working on one-time or on-going projects because they offer something different, constantly requiring analysis to ensure what is requested is actually achieved.

Contact us for a complimentary meeting on the special project needs you may have.

Bookkeeping

Do you trust in the accuracy of your bookkeeping?

Every business owner deals with accounting, whether they like it or not. It’s one thing to believe in your own bookkeeping abilities, but what if you’re unsure of the kind of work your internal accountant is performing?

We work with small businesses of many sizes to streamline their accounting process and make it more efficient and, most importantly, more effective. This, along with ensuring the accuracy of entered data, is what can make or break your business whether you know it or not.

My accounting software hasn't been updated in years, does that matter?

In a word, yes.

Today’s accounting software is much more powerful and effective than ever — if you know how to use it. We help our clients upgrade their accounting software to fit the needs of their business.

Many of our clients opt for an online, in the “cloud,” solution. This allows access to the company’s books 24/7 and allows us, as your accountants, to continuously monitor the accounting aspect of your business.

What if I just want another set of eyes to take a look at my books once in a while?

That’s perfect!

We have several clients who feel that their accounting is done pretty well, but take comfort in having an outside, objective party make sure there aren’t any glaring mistakes.

Whether it’s monthly, quarterly or annually, set up a free consultation with us to determine how often your accounting records should be perused.

I know how to operate QuickBooks, etc., but I don't understand the higher-level accounting my business needs. Can you help?

Absolutely.

Every business shares some basic, common accounting concepts but there are others who need to have a more knowledgeable person address complex accounting scenarios. The reasons range from regulatory requirements or just industry-specific intricacies that are not as common.

Our goal is to help your business comply with these accounting concepts and not get bogged down by the complexities of outside forces.

Higher Education

What's your connection to higher-ed?

We began our careers auditing the financial statements of private post-secondary for-profit institutions and have always been passionate about working in the education sector. It only makes sense that we continue working with the industry in some sort of capacity.

Do you do any 90/10 work for Title IV institutions?

We have extensive experience calculating 90/10 compliance for Title IV–both for due diligence purposes, for submission to the Department of Education or even internal purposes.

As gainful employment and presumption rules and requirements continue to get more complex, we offer clarity to our clients who have to deal with these issues. It’s one of our areas of expertise.

Do you only serve Southern California?

While we are based in Orange County, California, we have clients as far away as Texas and Louisiana but also closer home in California’s Central Coast and San Francisco Bay Area.

Meeting face-to-face is not a requirement of ours, but we’d be happy to work with you via e-mail, “cloud” storage, video-conferencing, etc.

Do you do any financial aid compliance audits?

Yes! For our Title IV clients, a compliance audit can be bundled with the financial statement audit to provide a better price and more efficient service.
